Problem Statement
People struggle to remember their dreams shortly after waking up, leading to lost or forgotten dream experiences.
Existing solutions fail to capture and preserve dreams effectively, hindering individuals' ability to engage with and explore their dream world.

Quantitative research
Based on a Google survey with 12 respondents, the following key findings were identified:

-
95% of respondents reported experiencing difficulty in remembering their dreams.
-
80% of respondents expressed interest in understanding their emotional state during dream experiences.
-
73% of respondents indicated a desire to keep a dream diary or record of their dreams.
-
90% of respondents expressed interest in sharing their dreams with friends or family.
-
70% of respondents reported interest in knowing about other people's dreams.
While the sample size is small, these findings suggest that there is a demand for an app that can assist users in recording and sharing their dreams, as well as providing insight into emotional states during dream experiences. Additionally, the desire for social sharing and community engagement around dream experiences could be a key feature to incorporate into the app.
Competitive analysis
To establish a benchmark for creating an improved user experience, I conducted research on Play Store to identify several Dream Journal apps. This exercise was aimed at identifying the best Dream Journal apps available in order to set a high standard for my own app development.

Design challenge

How can we design a user-friendly app to easily record dreams and use that data to get better insights about ourselves and others by sharing, analyzing, and visualizing our dreams?
Proposed solution
The dreamy dream app would allow users to:
-
Record your dreams
-
Categorize dreams by different emotions as well as track their timelines
-
It also allows you to analyze and track your dream patterns
-
You can also share your dreams with friends and family
-
An additional feature called the ‘dream map’ allows you to anonymously see what others are dreaming based on your location on an interactive map.

Design
Information architecture

Low-fi sketches

High-fi wireframes
After designing a lo-fi wireframe, I have transformed them into high-fidelity wireframe using Figma. Further created an interactive prototype. While designing the UI of the app, I kept the following things into consideration for the overall feel of the app
-
It will probably be used a lot in the evening, so a darker UI is essential
-
It is a sleep application, so it needs to be very simple to use

Add dream page

The dream map allows the users to anonymously see what others are dreaming about based on their geographic location. In this feature, only the mood and category of the dream will be revealed. The location would be approximate to a region to keep the user identity anonymous. This would allow people to visualize what others in a particular area dream about.
